1976 AMATEUR BOXING ACTION

VICTORIA ATHLETIC ASSOCIATION BOXING by Brian Zelley




The Victoria Athletic Association began in August 1976 to replace the
London Boxing Club, the following is a report that appeared
in the Victoria based Sportcaster: in November 1976.

A's Record Five Bouts"

Victoria A's boxers won five of 11 bouts on a 14 bout
card at the Qua;dra Rec Centre hosted by the Victoria Athletic
Association.


Winners included Dale Robinson, Paul Panke, Matt Montgomery
Tom Turnbull and Jack Dillon. On the losing side of the Victoria
ledger were Jeff Cashin, Scott Schaffer, Malcolm Montgomery,
Danny Dannyluck, Gary Robinson and Wayne Crowe. Seconds for
the VAA team were Mike Caird, Brian Zelley and Don Shaw.
VAA director Fred Goddard was the announcer.
Best VAA boxer was TOM TURNBULL...Most Sportsmanlike was
MATT MONTGOMERY. And, according to head referee FRED FULLER
the best matched bout was the semi-main event that saw
BARRY BLATTER of Burnaby edge out GARY ROBINSON...
The most exciting bout JACK DILLON and PASCAL BELANGER,

Three VAA boxers are scheduled for activity at Powell River
on November 27. Scheduled are Tom Turnbull, Jack Dillon
and Jeff Cashin. Travelling with the boxers will be coaches
Brian Zelley and Lou Bujdoso.
